It's personal: Gordon Ramsay is itching to return to the city where he trained in his 20s

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been forced to postpone the opening of the Paris restaurant he hoped would make his name in the world's culinary capital.

The fiery Scot is determined to avoid the mistakes that hit his New York restaurant in 2006, earning him a roasting from the city's food critics.

The 41-year-old said his Paris restaurant was the "big one" and his revenge for his humiliation as an apprentice in the city.

He had planned to open his fine dining room at the five-star Trianon Palace Hotel in Versailles on January 1 – but the date has now been put back three months.

A brasserie which was due to begin serving this Thursday is also delayed.

A statement from Ramsay's publicist said: "We don't have a precise date yet for the opening of the brasserie.

"The fine dining restaurant looks set to be open by the end of March and Gordon will, of course, be there."

Ramsay, who spent three years in Paris in his 20s, has said it was his ambition to return in triumph, and show the French the best in British food.

"It's personal and I can't wait for my first-ever launch in Paris," he said.

"In my training, I got my [butt] kicked there for three years.

"Now I'm looking forward to telling them what to do. Paris is a big one for me.

"I'm scared of nothing – half the French chefs in Britain wouldn't survive in France."

Ramsay runs restaurants in London, America, Dubai, Tokyo, Dublin and Prague. Between them they hold 12 Michelin stars.
