'I'm a human pet': The Goth teenager whose fiance walks her around on a dog lead
Last updated at 00:22am on 24.01.08Given that she describes herself as a human pet – and is happy to walk around on a lead – Tasha Maltby is used to odd looks and even odder remarks.
But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."
Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being "victimised".

Going walkies: Dani Graves and girlfriend Tasha Maltby were allegedly barred from a bus
"It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime," 19-year-old Miss Maltby said yesterday.
The music technology student had this defence of her lifestyle.
"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life," she said.
"I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."
The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening.
He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his "pet" on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station.
The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door.
Mr Graves alleged: "He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.
"He said, 'We don't let freaks and dogs like you on'.
"He basically grabbed my T-shirt and slammed me backwards.
"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."
In a separate incident, police were called when the driver, who has not been named, refused to allow other passengers on board after the couple ignored his orders and sat down.
The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years.
They started going out together in July and became engaged in November.
Paul Adcock, of bus company Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We take any allegations of discrimination seriously.
"Mr Graves has already contacted us directly and as soon as our investigation has concluded we will inform him of the outcome."

You know, It may be BDSM pet play they are into. The odd thing is is that my Master walks me on a leash and we have no problems getting any type of public transport. We get odd looks alright but they're quite amusing. I love my collar & and I love being walked on a leash and I love being the human puppy girl for my beloved Master. The bus driver was in the complete red zone with his POV. He should of been sacked and made apologise!

Thats wrong. Why should the bus driver care how they dress and whatnot? Everyones different, and thats the problem with this world. People who are different are seemingly not allowed to do a lot of things. Its just so wrong.

I don't think it's right to discriminate against them. D: I don't find it "wrong" to walk around like that. Maybe it IS a bit weird. But I wouldn't mind being put on a collar and walking around either. I personally like the stares that people give me. I feel kinda bad for them.

I don't see anything wrong with it either. Heh...I myself have a collar and though I am not so sure about doing it in very public places, I wouldn't mind a leash.

If he ever gets tired of her he can give me a try, but he can be MY pet! hahha.

For crying out loud, enough is enough with Goth Discrimination! I am a goth myself, and just by walking in the streets I receive dirty looks and gasps whenever I wear my trench coat or combat boots. I've had things thrown at me, a few people have even spat at me in public, and I have been threatened by other people for being goth.
I am glad this couple goes on practising what they feel is right, and the bus driver has no right in not letting them on a bus. He should mind his own business and stop meddling with their personal lives. I personally hope everyone learns something from this and as a member of the GLF, I am proud to be a goth and life a gothic lifestyle.

I don't see anything wrong with wearing a collar. In fact I'd like to see more people wear a collar. Some people take life too seriously. The bus driver should lighten up and try to enjoy life.

Yeah, yeah, you get it all the time but you have to know when to fight your battles and when to just leave hyprocrits like this, whose mind will never be changed because the brain cells simply don't function properly, alone. Good luck with the discrimination case but all you're effectively doing is making yourself a bigger target.

Sorry this is blatant discrimination. The driver should be sacked.

This is outrageous, when did they stop dogs from boarding buses? What a fascist state we live in.
