A resident fed up with vandalism at her local bus stop gave it a Moroccan-style makeover - complete with armchairs, cushions and floral wall designs.

Creative Jane Tinsley, 47, has transformed the drab bus shelter into a lavish Moroccan retreat with terracotta paint and interior furnishings.

Mum-of-three Jane launched her TV-style makeover in a bid to stop vandals attacking the dilapidated building near her home.

Now the bus stop in Fowey, Cornwall, provides a distinctly African feel for people waiting to use public transport and take shelter from the rain.

Jane said: "It was scruffy and horrible and the seat was broken and it is one of the first things people see when they arrive here.

"All the bits of furniture and paintings have been donated by lots of different people who all wanted to see the bus stop improved.

"We had plastic chairs at first but now they have been replaced by better quality wooden ones that people no longer needed in their homes."

She even made a curtain for the window and added a rocking chair, waste-paper basket and a selection of neatly pruned pot-plants.

Cafe owner Jane was given permission to spruce up the small stone shelter by the town council after it suffered years of vandalism.

Councillor Sally Bain said: "She's made it so attractive. In the early stages there was some vandalism but now it seems to survive.

"I think it's rather lovely and it's very popular in Fowey."

My hat is off to this fine woman, but how pathetic is it that in order to have a piece of public property not vandalized, we need to give it an "African" feel. I presume something with an "English" feel, or "Western" feel, or "Israeli feel", or "American" feel would have been promptly vandalized.

What does this say about what Britain has turned into?

leaving a small bit of the world better than you found it is a wonderful thing to do. Even if the vandals trash it, at least for awhile someone created beauty and warmth where there was none.

The picture is great.
