Last updated at 01:22am on 05.04.08The man who stunned the world when he announced he was pregnant gave an intimate insight into his personal life in a revealing television interview with Oprah.
Thomas Beatie stripped off for the cameras and bared his baby bump and also revealed pictures from his beauty queen days as a young woman.
However, the 34-year-old transsexual also told chat show host Oprah Winfrey that he feared for his own safety and admitted doctors had warned him his baby could be killed because of the revulsion at her birth.

The couple revealed all to Oprah and admitted that they feared how people would react to their child
Now six-months pregnant, Beatie walked onto the show with a grey cardigan stretched over the growing bump.
The TV chat show queen was filmed patting Beatie's bulging stomach during the hour long interview with his wife Nancy.
The 34-year-old transsexual was filmed for the show undergoing an ultrasound scan and preparing for the birth of their daughter.

Blurred images of the baby girl could clearly be seen as a smiling Beatie looked on.
Beatie said many doctors had refused to treat him and one warned him: "People would try to kill my baby because it is an abomination."

His appearance on US TV was part of a media blitz to knock down suggestions the pregnancy was a hoax.
As well as the Oprah show, Beatie also gave a detailed interview to People magazine.
The former beauty pageant queen, who conceived through artificial insemination, confessed many people saw him as a "freak".
He said some of his own family members had referred to the baby as "monster".
He accepts that not everyone will understand why he and his 45-year-old wife decided to have a child, which is due in July.
The couple, from Bend, Oregon, said they had already thought about the task of telling their child how she came into the world.

"We will tell her how her parents love each other and love her very much.

Beatie struggles to fit into his old clothes as his stomach grows
Beatie,who was born Tracy LaGondino in Hawaii, caused a worldwide sensation last week when he revealed the pregnancy in the gay magazine The Advocate.
But after neighbours in Oregon poured scorn on the pregnancy it was thought to be an elaborate hoax.
Beatie legally became a man after undergoing a sex change operation - but kept her female reproductive organs.
He told People magazine he decided to get pregnant after wife of five years Nancy had a hysterectomy.

"If Nancy could get pregnant, I wouldn't be doing this," he said.
"But who hires a surrogate if they are perfectly capable of carrying their own child?

"And I'll be the father and Nancy will be the mother.
"Having this baby doesn't make me any less of a man."

Beatie was born a girl and grew up in Hawaii where people thought she was a 'freak'
Beatie said he was afraid of how people would react when he gives birth.
"I want to make it easier for the next couple like us, but I'm afraid.
"Afraid of how people will react for our safety. I don't want to lose the life we have." Nancy, a mother of two, added: "We know this is a hard thing for some people to understand.
"But to us we're just a husband and wife who are having a baby."

I believe that every person is entiled to there own way of life. My husband is a united states soldier fighting in Iraq, so that we as the american people have the freedom and choices that we as AMERICANS are privilaged to have thank you to our arm forces. Freedom isent free. I am trying to understand the big deal - Thomas is genetically a woman. If you insert semen in 90% of females while they are ovulating - wow, they get pregnant. This is just a publicity stunt. Now if she had impregnated herself - wow, what a story.

I don't know why everyone is making a big deal about this? They are having a baby. We should all be happy for them. If I were in there situation I would do the same thing. Who are we to judge them? This is very sad for everyone, in many ways more then one, the principle of bodily integrity has been violated. This little girl is still fully human and should be treated with the dignity that is deserving to any human person. It is not her that chose to be created in such a manner or in such a family. This also shows where our society is going, to which science and technology have influenced our futures greatly, and not always for the best.

I personally don't agree with this. It's against the Bible and God's word...first of all becoming a man then on top of that becoming pregnant. I know you're trying to help your "wife" which is also wrong for the whole same-sex thing, but I think children who are waiting to be adopted would be just as good.

I highly do not agree with this! Originally being a woman and then becoming a man because it felt "right" does not cater for using female organs to become pregnant. It is most peoples desire to become pregnant that is understood, but I m sure there are other ways around it adopting an orphan? But not being both mother and father, think of the child in the future. It is selfishness thinking about the one person's needs and not the future child of the coming generation!

I hate to say it, but by getting pregnant and having a baby does make this person less of a man. Being transgender myself, I would never do this, regardless if my wife could conceive or not. Adoption is always an option out there. I'm surprised this person hasn't had any problems with this. Male hormones that you're given attack the uterus and make it shut down, which is why it has to be taken out whether the person still wants it or not. If you want to be a man you have to act like one. So this isn't a "Man having a baby" to me, it's "A chick that looks like a dude having a baby." That's fine by me and all, just don't think it's anything special. If you have a baby maker, more than likely you can have a baby, so this doesn't surprise me.

My question is if she knew she wanted to have a baby one day why would she remove her breasts but not her other female organs? Didn't she think she'd need breasts for the baby?

I am astounded at the ignorant tone of most of these comments. No you cannot truely change gender but Body Dysmorphic Disorder which is the main cause of gender confusion in people is now well documented. People living with this disorder suffer enormously as they truely feel trapped in the wrong body. There is sympathy these days for depression and a whole host of other disorders, why not this one. Life is so short and we should all be allowed to pursue happiness so long as we don't harm others. This as yet unborn baby will be brought up in a conventional family with the small exception that it's birth mother will take on the father's role. And No, Carol of NY, Beattie is NOT a lesbian.

She is still a woman. By appearance I see a man as I would have never guess that cosmetic surgeries were done to change the appearance. However, she was created a woman, and since the story has been revealed by the individual - now they know that you are actually a woman trying to be a man. I think it's great that a couple can show their love to the world. Sometimes when people are born, they feel wrong in their bodies, they have every right in the world to decide on what they want and how they want to be in their life. When a female is born, and feels as though she should be a male, it doesn't make her a lesbian. Gender can't be changed. You can have surgery all you want but it doesn't actually change what you already are, only the appearance of things. So many babies are born into the world unloved and uncared for - many accidentally after a mindless drunken hook-up between morons: this couple have thought this through carefully, it will be their own child, and to beat the odds like this it's got to be something they really care about.
