Banksy pulled off an audacious stunt to produce what is believed to be his biggest work yet in central London.

The secretive graffiti artist managed to erect three storeys of scaffolding behind a security fence despite being watched by a CCTV camera.

Then, during darkness and hidden behind a sheet of polythene, he painted this comment on 'Big Brother' society.

'One nation under CCTV': CCTV (pictured top right) failed to catch Banksy

Yesterday the scaffolding gang returned to remove all evidence - again without the camera operator stopping them.

The work, above a Post Office yard in Newman Street near Oxford Circus, shows a small boy, watched by a security guard, painting the words: 'One nation under CCTV.'

Andrew Newman, 35, a businessman from Dulwich, who works locally, said: 'It was only on Sunday morning that the Post Offices guys realised what had happened.'

I saw the scaffolding going up at 11:00 am Saturday.
Neither men had helmets on and one dropped a plank on the others head.

I thought at the time that these guys must be cowboys the way they were working.

Banksy is an amazing artist to even be able to get into such a place to create this piece of art is spectacular. I think the piece of art should be left up for people to see and take pictures of as the statement is true we are constantly under CCTV and for Banksy to do this without being seen shows some people are not doing there jobs properly or that he is just to much of a skilled graffiti artist. The painting itself is outstanding and huge. It would be a crime in itself to deface the image.

Nice one! I like its simplicity.

Yes its illegal, but so is spitting on the pavement in some places.

Banksy is a proper artist you may argue that it's Graffiti, but boy has he brightened up some dull walls and in turn our lives.
I deplore the unsightly Tagging which is now Global, but this is different he can do my wall whenever he wants!
