England to squeeze in 10million more immigrants and children within 25 years
Last updated at 00:50am on 13.06.08
England will have to make room for 10million extra people in less than 25 years' time, official figures predicted yesterday.
The population is expected to top 60million by 2030 - as many as live in the whole of the UK now.
The rise is equivalent to a city the size of London, or the populations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland put together.
Most of the new residents will be immigrants, who are already adding 191,000 a year to the population, according to current Government figures.

Tight squeeze: England's population is set to rocket to 60million in the next 25 years
Their children are also likely to form a large part of the surge, as birthrates among newly-arrived groups are higher than among the existing population.
The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, brought further warnings from critics of large-scale immigration.
Sir Andrew Green of the Migrationwatch think- tank said: 'Some 70 per cent of this population increase will be a result of immigration. This is clearly unsustainable from the point of view of public services and infrastructure, and, even more importantly, from the point of view of the cohesion of society.'
The projections are based on population and immigration estimates from 2006, which put the number of people living in England that year at 50,763,000.
The ONS says that figure is likely to pass the 55million mark in 2017, and by 2031 England will be home to 60,432,000.
The biggest rises in that period are expected to be in the South-East (nearly 1.6million more residents), the East (gaining 1.4million) and the capital (1.3million more Londoners).
Other regions will be less popular with immigrants and less subject to population pressures, the figures say. The North-East is expected to take little more than 200,000 extra people.
The statistics are the latest to suggest that Whitehall expects recent very high population increases to continue in the coming decades.
Last month, ONS figures said the population has risen by a million in just three years - a faster rate than when today's big cities took shape at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century.
Some Government-sponsored projections put the UK population as high as 100million by the end of this century.
The new arrivals will add to a growing housing crisis, with the Government struggling to meet existing demand for homes.
Its latest proposals to build a series of 'eco- towns' have already provoked protests from MPs and those alarmed that massive estates are going to spring up on their doorsteps.
The Department for Communities and Local Government says that a third of the number of new homes that need to be built are needed to house immigrants.
When this estimate is updated shortly, it is expected to say that at least 38 per cent of new homes will be built for immigrants.

England is near the size of the US state of Louisiana,if you look at map of the United States youll get an idea of just how small England is
Could you imagine what 60 million people would be like living in louisiana, but this is what England will be in 25yrs,it doesnt look very good.
Future generations will be left no doubt to sort it out and to deal with it

There are 2.5 million unemployed people in the UK right now, what possible reason is there to add 10 million more people to the workforce?
I agree with Mark's comments - the doors should be closed until all illegal immigrants are deported, along with legal immigrants who have thanked us for our generosity by committing crimes here. Just look at the Metropolitan Police 'Most Wanted' website - they may be wanted by the police, but I think that most citizens would happily see these fine examples of multiculturalism shipped back home.
Once illegal immigrants and criminals are sent packing, teach the remaining people English and build up the infrastructure necessary to support the current population. Limit the number of children that people can have to ensure sustainability and overhaul the benefits system to ensure that people who can't work are supported, while people who won't work are denied access to the taxpayer's money.
We should also make it absolutely clear that multiculturalism is fine in private, but the conventions, customs and laws of this country are British. If immigrants want to live under Sharia law, or have Sharia courts adjudicate on civil matters, then they should be encouraged to apply for citizenship in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

Has any one got a loaf and two fishes or two loaves and a fish //along with a few billion more gallons of drinking water!! God help our children we have failed them.

The demise of such a proud and wonderful country is imminent. Enoch Powell was such a great visionary!
It looks like the same thing that happened to Rhodesia some 30 years ago and is now the "basket Case" of Africa". History repeating itself for sure!

Allowing the colonisation of this once great nation is treason but instead of punishing these ideologically driven fanatics, it is ordinary people who are in fact being criminalised for politically correct trivia.

This is supposed to be a democracy - so how come, if most people think enough is enough, that the situation continues to get worse by the day?

If you are all so wound up about immigration get out on the streets and demonstrate.
Or are you scared that you might offend someone?

To Dave. We are a third world country. Our culture has been diminished whilst the rights of minorities are paramount. Rubbish collection in many areas has been cut back leading to an increase in fly tipping and rats, typical of many third world countries. The decrease in rubbish collection is promoted as a "green" measure, but the Government forget their green credentials when they are trying to concrete over every last bit of green belt land to house immigrants. Oh, and we've all got to use less water, because now the population is growing, there isn't enough. Hospital cleanliness is definitely third world.

My perch is available, I left thank goodness, quite a long time ago at that.
When I see from my own visits and read in the media what England (and the UK) is becoming I'm filled with a terrible rage at what's going on in the land of my birth and raising whether on this subject or many others.
It's a good job I left, I'd probably get locked up by the PC brigade otherwise.
P.S. Gordon Brown: the Irish voted NO to the EU and also saved you over the 42 day fiasco: take a hint (or three).

Why do some people commenting here think that England is an island.
- Patrick Clarke, Milton Keynes England
The unbelievable criminality of this passes beyond belief.
But it has to said and repeated again and again that the sheer inert passivity of the native English is the real issue here not the immigrants coming in.
There is very definitely something fundamentally wrong with English attitudes and the way they think. This is the main issue. But it does not alter the fact that the people promoting this colonisation are criminals, they just have not been charged yet.

Putting this story together with the story of the dozen illegals living in the man's ceiling - paints a very scary future for England....you're looking down the barrel of becoming a 3rd world country.

This smacks more of colonisation rather than immigration.

Well they can have my space. As soon as I have the qualifications I need I'm off somewhere sunnier where they don't pay most of their money in tax and they have enough pride in their country to stand up for themselves.

What cheerful news.
As we are powerless to stop this madness can I make a personal plea to all those coming over to at least make an effort to learn to speak English? I already feel like a stranger in my own country.

I'm heading for retirement in a few years' time. Whilst on holiday in Portugal recently, I spotted a few reasonably priced properties, maybe I will finally have to accept that to retain any standard of living, I will have to spend my retirement abroad. I do not recognise this country any more.

We have rising unemployment and a slowdown in economic growth that could turn into full blown recession. The government brag about their green credentials, yet want to concrete over the green belt to house immigrants. The government blame unemployed British people for being unemployable as many are poorly educated - and yet schools tell us they cannot cope with a tide of immigrants who cannot speak English who lower educational standards for everyone else. Enough is enough. Let's close our borders to all but the highly skilled and educated.

Immigration is a good thing provided that it's controlled, especially economic migrants, I work in IT and some of my colleagues are immigrants from China, Australia, India and New Zealand, each of them is incredibly bright and a real asset to the company (and the economy), they all pay their way and have homes here, most intend or already have permanent residential status which can only be a good thing.
The problem in the UK seems to be that you can come in on a working visa or under EU citizenship and then just disappear into the system or claim benefits, this is the problem that needs solving, it's partially immigration but more about the giant flaws in the system which allow people to get in the first place and then exploit the system. We should do as Australia and America have done and introduce a sponsorship system whereby a company or institution is liable for your whereabouts at all times.

The status quo will remain - just the number of hard working English people will move to nicer, law abiding countries where you can still accidentally drop a few crumbs from a sausage roll on the ground and not be given a criminal record.

More immigrants, more taxes, that's the real reason for this massive push. Should this indeed happen: Britain must ensure the quality of these immigrants instead of primarily accepting unskilled people. If immigration is done properly it can strengthen a country, just like how America flourished through immigration, however, if it is done improperly it the consequences are irreversible.
- Brandon Thomas, London UK
What I have predicted for many years now is that our land of milk and honey will by 2030 no longer be seen as such. Anglo Saxons will have left the UK for pastures new abroad leaving their homeland to the immigrants who will then wake up one day to see a country in complete and utter ruins. Only then will they realise that the land of milk and honey is no more!
- Nigel, Watford
Thank Goodness for immigration without it the country would grind to a halt as at least they have a great work ethic.
- Q, London
Why does England "have to" squeeze in all these people?
What happens if we don't?
Will our country fall apart if we don't?
Insanity.
And as someone else says here I will seriously consider voting for ANY party who promise to stop this.

People write on this site and wring their hands as to the unacceptability of it all. How many are prepared to do something, such as protest?

It's a shame for people who flee here in terror (and even for other reasons), but we should put the people already here first and not take anyone, Geneva Convention or otherwise.

This lovely sceptred isle. This green paradise. Always protected by its water boundary from much of the folly that has occurred elsewhere. But now, with Government (both Labour and Conservative parties) intent on giving away its status as an independent country, things are running out of control. A population target set not any more by London but by the de facto central government on the Continent -- but made to appear as if London still has a say and some control. Starting with Maastricht, the subsequent Treaties (Amsterdam and Nice) have give more and more of the sovereign rights away. The misnamed Lisbon "Treaty" (EU Constitution) will formally create a federal state, with the U.K. becoming a province. Provinces don't control their borders; central governments control their, i.e. the countries', borders. This is why a large expense is being put into creating a border along the eastern edge of the new E.U. country; this was covered by the BBC a few months back.
In the result, moaning over the expected massive increase of people on this island is going to do little good. The power has gone from London to do anything about it. A person entering the E.U. through Spain or Lithuania already has a right of free movement among the Member States (read: "provinces"). That right came with the Maastricht Treaty. Also the right to get U.K. support payments for a family back home in another province. Power to set its own future is gone for the U.K.

WHY?
Doesn't this Government understand, there is no more room for any more spongers to live here. For God's sake we are barely surviving at the moment without more coming over.
The whole network is going to collapse. There must be something we can do to stop this.
- Phil Jordan, Maidstone Kent
A very simple solution would be not to let anybody else in until we've managed to get rid of anybody who shouldn't be here, the infrastructure is put right so that the indigenous population get priority in all things and the benefit system is totally overhauled to ensure that people come to the England for the right reasons.
- Mark, South-East London
Sorry but this is totally unacceptable. Action - hard action - has to be taken right now. Our borders must close immediately. The far right parties will be rubbing their hands at these horrific and alarming predictions.

"... 191,000 a year to the population, according to current Government figures."
Well you can immediately double that and then multiply by your favourite number. This government does not count extended family, it only counts the head of the family. The government currently has no idea who or how many people are in this country, let alone are able to control immigration.
- Frank, Home Counties, England.
Surely the population is 60million now!
- Stephen D., London England.
Big mistake. We don't have room. And walking into town now and hearing people speak foreign languages all around me, I can see we're becoming a minority in our own country.
I don't recognise this country any more.
