Model's 18th birthday party ends in a 'football riot after her millionaire father made racist comments'

A model's 18th birthday party erupted into a 'football riot' after her millionaire father made racist comments, a court heard yesterday.

Police were called to the £1million home of businessman Marc Chopping after a caterer was glassed in the face at the party for his daughter, Cydney.

Violence flared after Mr Chopping greeted the 150 guests at the champagne reception on his estate in Tadworth, Surrey, with the remark: 'Come this way, it's £4 for the blacks and £2 for the whites.'

The businessman, who has carpet showrooms in London, then continued to make racist comments over the microphone, Guildford Crown Court was told.

Moments later a mass brawl resembling a 'football riot' broke out after guests confronted Mr Chopping on the dance floor.

As the fighting spilled out on to the drive, a mob of partygoers attacked an Asian caterer.

Sanjeev Subramanian was confronted by an angry crowd yelling 'Go back to the bush' after he went to the aid of a badly beaten guest.

In a drunken fury after downing large quantities of whisky, Nicky Chequer, 19, smashed a glass into the face of the 40-year-old caterer while another man held his arms.

Chequer then fled the scene leaving Mr Subramanian with severe facial injuries which required more than 50 stitches.

The victim told the court: 'I knew it was serious. I was covered in blood and I could just feel hot blood all over my neck, face and body.'

Yesterday Chequer, from Mitcham, Surrey, was warned he faced jail after being found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

During their investigation into the assault last April, police arrested Cydney Chopping.

The model, who has a contract with Emporium Models agency, was accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice after Chequer allegedly asked her to cover up his crime.

But she was cleared of involvement after telling the court she did not know the identity of Mr Subramanian's attacker.

Fighting back tears, the student who has two A-levels said she blamed her father for causing the trouble with his racist jokes.

Miss Chopping said: 'I never had any intention of hiding anything from the police.'

No charges have been brought against Mr Chopping in relation to the assault.

Chequer was bailed until July 25 for sentencing.

However the investigation is now subject to a review by police after it emerged that Surrey Police only investigated the assault after Mr Subramanian's local MP Paul Burstow intervened on his behalf a month later.

Mr Subramanian told the court: 'I had my face hanging off, you could see my cheekbone and I was covered in blood and a policeman came up to me and said if you want to leave it at that we will leave it at that.

'I thought they would take it more seriously than that. Even the paramedic looked shocked.'

Mr Burstow said yesterday: 'The injuries were horrific. I took up his complaint with the police about the manner of the investigation.

'It lacked any real drive and determination to uncover who was responsible.'
