A Hatfield survivor spoke today of her relief at Stephen Byers's resignation.
Karen Moore, 42, was in the buffet car of the GNER train when it ploughed off the rails, ripping the roof open and leaving her hanging on for her life.
She suffered severe back and neck injuries in the derailment which killed four people. Speaking from her home in Nottinghamshire, she said: "I just feel he absolutely utterly had to go.
"His stock was utterly bankrupt. That he had become a distraction is probably the truest thing Byers has ever said."
