Bank thief who makes no attempt at disguise
11 August 2009
The man, who makes no attempt to disguise his identity, queues with customers before carrying out the raids.
When he reaches the counter he passes a note to the clerk which says: "Give me the money or I will start shooting."
Detectives say the man remains silent during the robbery as bank staff hand over the cash. He then calmly walks away.
Detective Inspector Jason Prins of Scotland Yard's Flying Squad said: "This is an unusual case because he makes no effort to disguise himself or hide from CCTV. He is always fairly calm."
Despite his threats to shoot bank staff, so far no one has seen a weapon. The robber steals several thousand pounds at a time and has now got away with more than £11,000.
He first struck on 22 July when he walked into a Lloyds TSB bank in Southampton Street. He struck three times in one day, 30 July, first at Barclays in Great Portland Street, then at a branch of HSBC in Hanover Square and finally at Lloyds in the Strand. There was another robbery at Lloyds in Tottenham Court Road on 7 August and another yesterday morning at Lloyds bank in Edg ware Road.
The man is described as between 5ft 10in and 6ft, with thin and grey or light brown hair. Police ask that if anyone recognises the man in the street they should call 999, ring Barnes Flying Squad on 020 8247 4804, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
