Barrymore to find out tomorrow whether he faces pool death charges
09 September 2007
Mr Barrymore, 55, of London, was questioned by detectives in June after being arrested on suspicion of seriously sexually assaulting and murdering 31-year-old Mr Lubbock, of Harlow, Essex.
He is due to answer bail - after being released without charge pending further inquiry - tomorrow.
Mr Barrymore's lawyer, Henri Brandman, said the star "categorically denied" the allegations. The body of Mr Lubbock was found at Barrymore's then home in Roydon, Essex, in March 2001.
Mr Barrymore, was arrested with two other men - named by police sources as Justin Merritt, 32, of Harlow, Essex, and Jonathan Kenny, 37, of Blackpool, Lancashire.
Police said both were also detained on suspicion of seriously sexually assaulting and murdering Mr Lubbock. Both were released without charge pending further inquiry and are also due to answer bail on Monday.
Mr Lubbock had been one of a number of guests at a party at the Mr Barrymore's home.
Post-mortem tests showed that he had suffered severe internal injuries, which suggested sexual assault.
Ecstasy, cocaine and alcohol were found in his bloodstream.
A lengthy investigation was conducted but no-one was charged with any offence in relation to Mr Lubbock's death. Mr Barrymore accepted a police caution for drugs offences.
Essex Police reopened the investigation into Mr Lubbock's death in December last year after reviewing the first inquiry.
