Berbatov agent set for crisis meeting at Spurs

Unsettled Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov will have his future discussed at a private meeting today after his agent jetted in to London to speak to the club's sporting director Damien Comolli.

New Spurs head coach Juande Ramos dropped Berbatov for the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday and the striker is believed to be deeply unhappy.

Former boss Martin Jol revealed at the weekend that he had to put a consoling arm around Berbatov's shoulder after his move to Manchester United was blocked last summer. The champions may now be prepared to test Tottenham's resolve to hang on to the 26-year-old in January.

Berbatov's agent, Emil Dantchev, told the Daily Mail: "I will have coffee with Damien and we will talk about Berbatov's future. I cannot and do not want to say any more."

Jermain Defoe started the game at the Riverside in Berbatov's absence and has claimed that Ramos's disciplinarian approach is already transforming Tottenham's fortunes.

One of his first moves after replacing Jol was to order the players to attend double training sessions.

"There's nothing wrong with that," said Defoe. "Footballers are lucky, we usually finish training much earlier than most people go home from work. Doing a bit extra is not a bad thing and when a new manager comes in, he needs to get to know his players quickly. Those double sessions showed at the weekend in terms of our shape, possession and organisation."

The England striker did not even make Spurs' 16-man squad for the recent games at Bolton and Newcastle, but Ramos's arrival has handed him an opportunity to resurrect his career.

"It's a fresh start for me," he said. "This season is the first time I have been left out of a squad during my time in first-team football. It was hard to take, but everyone is looking forward to the challenge under the new regime."
