Blair strikes it rich with £500k bank adviser job

Mr Blair, who quit as prime minister in July, will become a part-time adviser to JPMorgan on a salary rumoured to be at least £500,000 a year. He also revealed he expected to take a "small handful" of similar jobs with other companies in the near future.
His bonanza contrasts with the experience of thousands of British soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many faced poverty on their return because injury compensation payouts took up to three years.
Conservative defence spokesman Gerald Howarth said: "I think it will be viewed with some contempt by the armed forces that he picks up this large cheque when he was happy to send troops into battle illequipped and in insufficient numbers."
Mr Blair will give political and strategic advice to JPMorgan and take part in client events. He said: "I have always been interested in commerce and the impact of globalisation. The intersection between politics and the economy in different parts of the world is very strong."
JPMorgan chief executive Jamie Dimon said Mr Blair would be " enormously valuable", adding: "There are only a handful of people who have the knowledge and relationships he has."
Mr Blair is already set for multimillionaire status after a £5m deal for his memoirs. He goes on speaking tours and was paid $500,000 (£255,500) for a speech in China, while a four-date tour in the US netted £300,000.
He and wife Cherie are known to have big overheads, including £5m in mortgages.
Iraq veteran Colonel Tim Collins waited six months for £114-a-month payments for neck and ankle injuries. He said: "Even the largest payments to service personnel are barely a living wage."
