Community support officer Helen Murray has been banned from driving after causing an accident that killed her son and his best friend
A police community support officer was yesterday banned from driving for nine months after causing an accident that killed her son and his best friend.
Helen Murray, 38, from Corby, Northamptonshire, was also fined £500 after being found guilty of driving without due care and attention.
Murray was driving a Ford Ka when she pulled across the A427 in Corby into the path of an oncoming van in April last year.
Her son Luke Murray and his friend Terence McMahon, both 13, died in the crash, along with Luke's German Shepherd puppy.
At Northampton Magistrates' Court, district judge Ian Baker said: 'It's impossible to deal with a case such as this without feeling sympathy for the defendant whose feelings are probably almost impossible for anyone else to imagine.'
After the case, Terence's family said in a statement: 'Terence and Luke were the bestest of friends ever since attending primary school in Corby.
'They were both your typical 13-year-old boys with everything to live for, when tragically their lives were cut short.
'It was a terrible accident with terrible consequences and there isn't a court in the world that could punish Mrs Murray more than what she is already going through.'
