BNP leader Nick Griffin pelted with eggs

British National Party leader Nick Griffin was chased off the streets of London today after being pelted with swastika-daubed eggs.

He fled angry protesters after trying to hold a press conference outside Parliament.

Anti-fascist demonstrators confronted Mr Griffin and Andrew Brons, the newly elected MEPs for the BNP, shouting "off our streets, Nazi scum" as they chased him around a gazebo on Abingdon Green.

Protesters had marched from Westminster Tube after being alerted on Twitter and email about Mr Griffin's appearance.

Mr Griffin fled to a pub in south London. "This is a political mob, a mob for hire," he told the BBC.

"This is a mob of students, lecturers, probably a few civil service parasites.

"It's an own goal by the Labour party and David Cameron who has signed up to that mob as well. It's great for us."

Mr Griffin was hit with an egg and water was also thrown at him.
