But kids in America are discovering there is another way to make yourself beautiful - plastic surgery.

A Florida surgeon has published a book explaining why nips and tucks are good for mummies. Targeted at four- to seven-yearolds, My Beautiful Mommy aims to reassure children who are confused about parents going under the knife, and to warn them what to expect.

Dr Michael Salzhauer got the idea because patients bring their children to appointments. He said: "Many parents don't explain to kids what's going on. Children are very perceptive. You can't hide major surgery from them. When mom goes down for two weeks after a tummy tuck it affects them."
