Bookie's £2million test case

It is being called the court case that could bring down the betting industry as we know it.

Graham Calvert, a 28-year-old sometime greyhound trainer, is claiming in the High Court that William Hill should have stopped him from losing £2 million with them and that the bookie encouraged him when it knew he was a gambling junkie.

William Hill chief executive Ralph Topping today declined to comment ahead of judgment in the case but conceded: "The outcome could be very interesting." Topping added: "We are confident that we act in a socially responsible manner and that our 15,000 staff have been properly trained."
