The accident happened around 1.45pm yesterday on Sgurr nan Gillean, in the Cuillin range, Isle of Skye.
Rescuers said the boy, from Sussex, fell between 50 and 100ft.
Members of the Isle of Skye Mountain Rescue Team attended along with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter, stationed at Stornoway.
The boy was airlifted from the mountain and taken to the Dr MacKinnon Memorial Hospital in Broadford, Skye.
But after initial treatment he was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, suffering from serious injuries.
No more details were available on the boy's condition.
David Smith, watch manager at Stornoway Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, said: "We have been involved in 27 cliff rescues so far this year on the Isle of Skye but this is the first of this type.
"There are loose rocks and boulders on cliff faces and rock falls are not uncommon.
"The boy was unfortunate to be struck by the boulder. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Sgurr nan Gillean is considered the most famous of the Cuillin peaks and is a popular route with a difficult scramble to the summit.
