Sharmaarke Hassan, 17, died after he was shot in the head in Camden, north London on Saturday night. He is the 15th teenager to be killed in London this year
A 17-year-old boy has died after being shot in the head in a suspected gang attack.
Sharmaarke Hassan was found with a gunshot wound in, Camden, north London, shortly after 11pm on Saturday night.
He was shot as he sat chatting with friends on a bench in an estate close to his home.
He was admitted to hospital but died last night, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of his murder.
Officers from Operation Trident, the Met's black-on-black gun crime unit, are investigating the possibility that the shooting was a drugs-related gang attack.
Sharmaarke is the 15th teenager to die violently in London this year.
Superintendent Paul Morris from Camden Borough Police said: "This is a shocking tragedy. We have stepped up patrols in the borough to reassure the community and specialist officers are investigating the incident.
"In addition, we are working closely with community groups to offer any other reassurance which we can."
Sharmaake's death comes on the day the Met has launched a new high-profile campaign to tackle knife crime in the capital.
The adverts show shocking images of the real-life wounds sustained by knife crime victims.
Sharmaarke was shot the same day that Rob Knox was stabbed to death in an unconnected incident outside the Metro Bar in Sidcup, south-east London.
Rob was to play Marcus Belby in the forthcoming Harry Potter film.
His father, Colin Knox, described his son as "an angel on earth without wings" and said he was a "very positive guy" who could turn his hand to anything.
Unemployed Karl Bishop, of Beaver Lodge, Carlton Road, Sidcup, has been charged with his murder.
Two weeks ago 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen, who like Rob played for Sidcup Rugby Club, suffered fatal injuries after being attacked with a shard of glass in a bakery in Lee, south-east London.
