Boy stabbed in argument outside school fights for life

A teenager was left fighting for life after being stabbed outside a school in south London.

The 16-year-old was stabbed several times and left for dead in the street.

The attack took place in Southwark, close to Guy's Hospital and London Bridge station.

Emergency services found the boy lying on the pavement in Porlock Street in a pool of blood. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The incident is the latest in a line of attacks involving teenagers in London, many of them gang-related. Two boys have been stabbed to death already this year while last year 27 teenagers were murdered.

The victim of yesterday's assault attends the Porlock Hall Pupil Referral Unit, a special school for children who have been excluded from other educational establishments.

Witnesses said he was stabbed after an argument outside the school just after 3pm.

Police cordoned off the road and two schools, including Beormund Primary School, as forensic teams began to search for the weapon. A man who works at an adjacent youth centre said: "He was a pupil at the school. They were outside and there was some sort of incident.

"I was working inside when it happened but a colleague said they saw a load of blood on the pavement.

"Apparently he had run around the corner and teachers from the primary school came running out. We have a camera and the police asked if they could view the tape, but it does not record - it is only for monitoring."

Detective Inspector Bernie Galopin, of Southwark CID, said officers were called to Porlock Street at 3.05pm.

"Police attended and found a male, believed to be aged 16, suffering from stabbing injuries. There is no description of suspects and we are keeping an open mind as to the motive.

"We believe there may have been a number of witnesses to this attack, either people coming home from schools in the area or general passers-by.

"We would urge these people and anyone else who can provide information to contact us in the strictest confidence."

Anyone with information can call the pol ice on 0207 232 6145 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
