Brace yourself for snow - winter returns to London

Snow and sleet are set to return to Britain this week as forecasters confirmed we have had the coldest winter for more than a decade.

A fortnight of mild weather that has seen the emergence of daffodils will come to an abrupt end this week as a bracing wind and cold weather front blow in from the North-West.

After a wet and windy Tuesday, forecasters are warning us to expect a change. Met Office forecaster Kevin Hogg said: "Tomorrow will turn wet and windy during the afternoon, then as we go into Wednesday, that rain moves away and introduces colder conditions. We will see a few sleety showers, possibly some snow, but nothing compared with what we experienced at the start of February."

Daytime temperatures will drop as low as 5c. This has been the coldest winter since 1995-1996, according to the Met Office.
