'Brixton Beach' is back - just in time for summer

Brockwell Park lido has reopened in time for the bank holiday after a £3 million refit.

The Art Deco venue, known to locals as Brixton Beach, has been painstakingly restored, with a gym and hydrotherapy pool now in its Grade II-listed outbuildings.

The pool is open from 6.30am to 8pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm at weekends.

The London Pools Campaign has called the lido a "wonderful classic". Swimmers have been enjoying it since 1937 but its future had been in jeopardy because of a lack of funds for urgent repairs.

Lambeth council signed a deal with health and leisure group Fusion, giving it a 25-year lease on the site in return for funding to refurbish it.
