Brother and sister appeal for help to find Adam's killers
17 March 2009
Adam, 15, was stabbed to death in Beckton as he walked home after a trip to the cinema with his girlfriend in March 2007. The teenager, a nephew of former Olympic sprinter John Regis, was stabbed with an eight-inch blade which went through his arm and pierced his heart.
No one has been charged with the murder despite a £20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. Police made 14 arrests in the first months of the investigation.
Three men were arrested last December but were bailed to return in May pending further enquiries. Today Adam's brother and sister urged the public to help find their brother's killer.
His sister Natalie, 14, said: "For two years since my brother Adam was brutally taken away I have not been able to express how I feel.
"But I know I need to tell the world that those who killed my brother have taken away a significant part of me too. The murderers of my brother probably don't have the human heart to understand how I feel otherwise they would not have killed him.
"But you who listen to this might just understand how I feel. Please do not condone this crime. Do not shield the murderers for another day longer to take another innocent life."
Adam's eight-year-old brother DJ said: "I am making this appeal on behalf of my brother Adam who I miss very, very much.
"He was not only my brother but my very best friend and I miss him with all my heart. If anyone can come forward with any information please come forward."
Adam was described as a model pupil who was a reading mentor for younger children at Kingsford Community School in Beckton.
He was stabbed to death as he walked home with his girlfriend Rachel Harman in what police believe was a motiveless attack.
Det Supt Matthew Horne, from the homicide and serious crime command, said: "The last two years have seen detectives carry out extensive enquiries into Adam's murder. Our latest information means we believe at least two of the suspects involved were Asian.
"Everything we have learnt about Adam points to the fact that he was a respected and well-liked teenager who was caring towards his friends and family and a popular student.
"He did nothing to provoke the events of that night and we still don't know why he was targeted.
"His family are doing their best to rebuild their lives but we can only imagine how difficult and distressing a process that is while those who stabbed Adam remain free."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 020 8345 3775, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or email adam.regisappeal@met.police.uk.
