Brown: Can't talk now, I'm at Davos

GORDON BROWN suffered embarrassment today when his mobile phone rang as he delivered a speech at the Davos summit.

Seated alongside UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Prime Minister had just begun to set out his thoughts on the economic crisis.

"I'm afraid that's my phone," he said, reaching to turn it off. Asked by laughing reporters who was calling, he replied: "I'm not telling you."

Earlier today a YouGov poll in The Daily Telegraph revealed that more than half the public think Mr Brown has managed the economic crisis badly. A third partly blame him for letting borrowing get out of hand. The Tories were on 43 per cent, with Labour on 32 and Lib-Dems on 16.

Downing Street had dismissed claims by backbencher John McDonnell that Mr Brown, famous for his appetite for hard work, was "emotional" while meeting Heathrow rebels on Wednesday.
