Brown closing Glenrothes gap

GORDON BROWN was today visiting Glenrothes for the second time during the by-election campaign as Labour's hopes of clinging onto the seat rose.

The party has closed the gap with the Tories from 24 per cent to nine, a poll showed. It suggests voters are disillusioned by Labour but are yet to be won over by David Cameron.

The Daily Telegraph's YouGov poll showed the Tories on 42 per cent, down three points since 4 October, Labour up two to 33 and the Lib-Dems unchanged on 15. In May, Labour was on 23 per cent, 24 points behind the Tories.

Mr Brown's visit today is expected to be more extensive than last Saturday's, with at least two engagements.
