'Bus accident changed our lives forever'

The wife of a man who was awarded more than £1million in damages after he suffered severe head injuries in a fall from a London night bus today spoke of their "four-year battle" for compensation.

Vincenzo Bollito, 36, was left in a coma after falling from the 159 bus home after a night out with family and friends in the West End in 2005.

His memory and sight are now impaired, he does not always recognise his family and is not expected to be able to work again.

He was left in a deep coma after the accident and is dependent on the care of his family.

Mr Bollito's wife, Filomena Esposito, of Streatham, said the couple welcomed the compensation award but described the court case as a struggle. She said: "It's been a long four-year battle and it was terrible for us all. It has been an incredibly stressful time for all of us. My husband can no longer work and that will continue.

"Both of our lives have been changed forever since the accident and I don't know what the future will hold."
