Bus stop woman raped three times

A woman who asked a stranger to light her cigarette was dragged into a building site and raped.

Billy Hammond attacked his 19-year-old victim three times after she tried to find a bus stop in Greenwich in the early hours of 1 March.

Prosecutor Simon Wild said he subjected his victim to "every woman's nightmare". CCTV footage showed Hammond, who had been smoking cannabis, grabbing her and dragging her to a secluded spot. An Old Bailey jury unanimously convicted him of three counts of rape after a four-day trial.

Hammond, of Greenwich, was remanded in custody to be sentenced on 5 October.

The court heard the victim had stayed at a friend's home until 3am before deciding to leave.

As she walked along the road, she asked a man walking past for a light. He then followed her before forcing her onto a building site where he ordered her to perform a sex act on him before raping her twice more.
