Can we pray for you, ask 30,000 Christians at stadium event

Thirty thousand Christians who are expected to pack Millwall football stadium next month to pray for the capital are inviting the public to send in personal requests.

The event, on 11 May, is part of an international Global Day of Prayer which was started by a businessman in South Africa in 2001 and now sees Christians in more than 200 countries uniting in prayer for their communities.

The London event is being organised by Jonathan Oloyede, a former Muslim who is now a pastor at Glory House in Docklands, one of the capital's fastest-growing churches.

Mr Oloyede said: "We know from national surveys that approximately 75 per cent of people in Britain believe in God, but only around eight per cent go to church on Sundays. However, when people are in need they often say a prayer and would be very happy for others to pray for them.

"We hope that through this prayer request initiative, people will feel they are valued and, as Christians pray for them, know they are loved by God."
