Canned: The 26p-a-pint cider sold by Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's chiefs have been forced into an embarrassing climbdown on the sale of 26p-a-pint cider.
They withdrew the promotion last Monday – just a day after it was highlighted by The Mail on Sunday. Last week we reported growing concerns that cheap supermarket deals were fuelling the nation's binge-drinking culture.
Sainsbury's special deal on the cider began a fortnight ago – just days after three teenagers were convicted of the murder of Garry Newlove, who they kicked to death after getting drunk on cheap cider and lager.
The firm had been offering Basics-label cider, which normally costs £1.20 for two litres or 34p a pint, at £3.60 for eight litres or 26p a pint.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury's said: "Basics cider has been withdrawn from promotion due to a review and change in policy. It will not be included in further promotions."
Lib Dem MP John Pugh had criticised Sainbury's, asking: "Where is the social responsibility they claim to have?"
