Caught on camera: The moment 'model citizen' youth worker battered stranger with brick in drunken street attack

Jailed: Wayne Robb is now serving a two and half year sentence for the street attack
Street cameras capture the moment Wayne Robb, 37, launched a totally unprovoked attack on a stranger outside his home.

As Robb, a former drug addict, hurled bricks at the man before kicking him in the head, council CCTV operators were watching on monitors.

The thug left his victim unconscious on the road but police and ambulance were alerted and got to him before he could be run over.

At Exeter Crown Court, where Robb was jailed for two and a half years, it was revealed that he once starred in a Government anti-drugs video after beating his own addiction.

Since then he had moved from his home in London to Exeter to start a new life and was working as a youth worker while taking a media studies degree at Plymouth University.

He launched his unprovoked attack on Andrew Tiley who happened to walk past him as Robb was having a drunken row with his girlfriend outside his home.

The savage attack left Mr Tiley unconscious while Robb, urged by his girlfriend, returned home. CCTV operators from Exeter City Council alerted police.

Robb admitted assault and was jailed by Judge Paul Darlow, who told him: "The video clearly shows a vicious attack which began with a brick being thrown hard and accurately at the victim who was hit on the head.

"You are lucky his injuries were not a great deal more serious." Mr Tiley escaped with cuts and bruises and a broken tooth.

Mr Nigel Wraith, defending, said Robb had been drinking heavily at a party at his home to mark the end of exams before the incident.

He said: "He was clearly shaken when he saw the CCTV and is deeply ashamed.

"He is a former crack cocaine addict who managed to rid himself of that habit and made an anti-drugs film which is shown in schools.

"That sparked an interest in media studies and voluntary work."
