City rolls out the barrel to show office workers how vineyards work

A vineyard has been created in the heart of London. The 80 vines, which are capable of producing 400 bottles of wine between them, have been installed in the Broadgate Arena, beside Liverpool Street station.

However their grapes are not going to be harvested, as they are an attempt to promote Australian wine producer McGuigan The 50-year-old sauvignon vines were gathered from across Europe. Quarantine regulations made it too difficult to bring the plants from the Adelaide Hills, where the company produces some of its wines. Founder Brian McGuigan said: "We need to bring people close to wine and bring the product to life. We felt the best way to do this was to bring vines to London to show them exactly what goes in to making wine."
