Cold shoulder for Ramsay as he splits with most loyal lieutenant

Gordon Ramsay has split from the chef who played a key role in the creation of his restaurant empire.
Marcus Wareing has worked with the foul-mouthed TV chef since 1993 and was widely regarded as his protege and most loyal lieutenant.
But Wareing is to take over Ramsay’s restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, West London, later this year.
Ramsay currently holds the tenancy at the £150-a-head venue Petrus, regarded as one of the best French restaurants in London and holder of two Michelin stars.
The split comes more than a year after the first rumours of a rift between the pair.
Wareing has played a vital role in the running of Ramsay’s £100million 20-strong restaurant empire at a time when Ramsay has been devoting increasing time to his TV work and commercial expansion into pubs and international outlets.

Maybourne Hotel Group, owner of The Berkeley, said: ‘We can confirm the group’s intention to work directly with chef Marcus Wareing to operate the fine dining restaurant at the hotel.
‘The existing contract with Gordon Ramsay Holdings expires on September 19 and a new contract with Marcus Wareing will then commence.’
Confirmation of the split came despite earlier denials by Ramsay’s spokesman Gary Farrow. He told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I will sue you if you run that story.’
Wareing said: ‘I’ve been working at Petrus for eight years very happily and I am looking forward to staying there for as long as I want to.’
A source close to the deal said that Ramsay had been going to dismiss Wareing. ‘When Marcus realised what was going on, he decided to make his own bid for the new lease and the owners of the hotel group decided to go with him rather than Gordon Ramsay.’
Wareing, 37, lives with his wife and three children in a £1.5million townhouse in South-West London.
He is one of Britain’s most respected chefs and has won several awards. Last year he received his second Michelin star for Petrus.
