Comeback queen Paula targets 2012
05 November 2007
The 33 year old's first triumph as a mother was so impressive that Sebastian Coe believes she has the ability to remain at the top for the next five years and cap a remarkable career with a win in her own country.
Coe, who watched Radcliffe's win in her first marathon since she gave birth to baby Isla in January, said: "I wouldn't bet against her running in 2012.
"She'll probably have two or three children by then and would be 38, but it's possible. It's a very unforgiving sport, a very unforgiving event but she's uniquely focused and uniquely talented. She's something else; Paula has transcended track and field. She is one of the biggest names in British sport of all-time."
Tracked all the way by Wami, the Briton looked once again doomed to be picked off by her old track nemesis when the Ethiopian hit the front in the last mile. Yet it only prompted a surge of defiance from Radcliffe who revealed she kept repeating to herself "Love you Isla" to help keep her rhythm before winning in 2hr 23min 9sec.
Afterwards, Radcliffe admitted she had a "huge desire" to run in Beijing and in London. "If my body can hold together, I would love to be there in 2012," she said.
