Comment: Green wheels

At last, there is to be a family-sized car powered by electricity: the Ze-0, unveiled at the British International Motor Show this week and due to go on sale in the autumn. Unlike the Postman Pat-style G-Wiz electric car, it seats five and costs, according to the manufacturers, just 3p a mile to run. Owners will pay no congestion charge and enjoy free parking in some boroughs. However, the Ze-O can run for only 65 miles before needing a re-charge: the makers will have to convince Londoners that to be truly green, they should stay close to home.
