Cost-cutting BBC spends thousands - on a fish tank

BBC bosses are spending thousands of pounds a year on maintaining a fish tank - despite claims of a cost-cutting ban on taxis for female staff at night.
An invoice shows the corporation is paying more than £2,000 this year for the upkeep of 'aquaria' in just one of its London offices.
The document details the expenditure for 'one year's aquaria maintenance' at BBC Marylebone High Street as £1,951.04, with parking costs adding a further £156.
BBC bosses are spending thousands of pounds of licence-payers' money on maintaining a fish tank
Insiders said the BBC had up to a dozen fish tanks across all its sites, and that the total annual bill could be nearer to £20,000.
But a spokeswoman for the corporation said that they were 'unaware' of the number of tanks it possessed or the annual cost of keeping them in good order.
The discovery will fuel anger over how the BBC is spending licence-payers' money.
One employee says staff were told in April expenses would be cut and one worker said they were upset that women who finished after 10pm could no longer claim taxis.
The BBC denied the cutbacks and added that it provided transport for all staff working after 10.45pm.
