I was scared, says 'target' in shooting that paralysed girl
13 February 2012
The suspected target of a shooting that left a five-year-old girl paralysed for life today told a court he was "scared" before the attack.
Roshaun Bryan said he had started to run after seeing "youths with covered faces" as he was on his way to Stockwell Food and Wine Store on 29 March last year.
Jurors at the Old Bailey were shown CCTV footage of Bryan and another man running into the store before Thusha Kamaleswaran was shot in the chest.
Asked by prosecuting QC Edward Brown why he ran, Bryan said: "I ran because I was scared because I saw covered faces."
Nathaniel Grant, 21, and Anthony McCalla and Kazeem Kolawole, both 19, deny attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and firearms offences. They are suspected of being gang members who wanted to kill Bryan in the latest episode of a violent feud.
Bryan is awaiting trial for drugs offences. Stephen Kamlish QC, representing Grant, suggested a rival drug dealer had ordered him to be shot. The trial continues.
