The events organiser, 43, lives with her boyfriend Tim Porter, 40, in one of the eight homes in Greenend Road to take part in the year-long project.

The neighbours have been given a total of £30,000 to increase the energy efficiency of their home.

"I recycle everything I can, even if it means a trip to the local recycling centre," Miss Dauncy said. "However, I think there is a lot more we could be doing, and I'm really looking forward to finding out what we can do."

The homes have already undergone an initial green audit, where thermal imaging pictures of the properties were taken to reveal where heat was escaping.

It found doors and windows were particularly poor - glowing red in the images - while walls also needed more insulation.
