But just three nights later, another girl was entwined with Prince Andrew on the Riviera.

Andrew, 47, made his move on a curvaceous brunette with a deep decolletage - who goes by the name of Ingrid - at a packed dinner-dance where he was accompanied by his eldest daughter Beatrice, who turns 19 next week.

The party was even more extravagant than the revelry at a Libyan businessman's villa where he had so tenaciously pursued singer Chris Von Aspen, 27, a few nights earlier.

This time his host was Tony Murray, an 85-year-old Anglo-French industrialist who spent some £500,000 on entertaining 400 guests.

They included Jeffery Dread, the New York artist who had introduced Andrew to Chris.

Having heard Andrew call skimpily dressed Chris "incredibly" beautiful, Mr Dread said he was astonished to see him engaging Ingrid in a conversation that soon turned physical.

He revealed: "They were dancing together by the pool, away from the crowd. Then I saw them hugging, kissing and cuddling.

"It was very heavy. They disappeared upstairs, then came down and left the party on a boat with a group of friends.

"Some people at first mistook Ingrid for Kate Middleton. From a distance they look alike. They thought Andrew was kissing William's girlfriend.

"Ingrid is tall, very beautiful, a model from Brazil, I believe. But I thought Andrew would be more shy in front of his daughter about having a great time with a young woman."

Mr Dread said he was "even more surprised" because Andrew "told me he was totally smitten by Chris".

He believes Andrew decided to "move on fast" after learning that American Chris is dating burly former Foreign Legion officer Bruno Philipponnat, as revealed in The Mail on Sunday.

Daddy's girl: Beatrice with her father at a party in St Tropez

It has emerged that Andrew is also cultivating a friendship with Matalan fashion director Maxine Adams, a mother of three, who is nearer his age.

She is separated from husband Paul but said: "My friendship with the Prince has nothing to do with my marriage break-up."
