Defoe relishing the fight

Defoe has come under fire from manager Martin Jol, who has questioned the England international's desire to be at the club because he hasn't signed a new contract.
The 24-year-old still has two years left on his current deal, but Jol has revealed that chairman Daniel Levy is worried he will run it down to leave on a free transfer like Sol Campbell did six years ago.
But Defoe said: "I've just got to be patient and wait for my chance. I feel fit, strong and am fully committed to the cause. Everybody knows how passionate I am about this club.
"I'll keep working hard in training and make sure I am ready physically and mentally when called upon."
Defoe is yet to start a game this season and he has been on the pitch for just 93 minutes having come on as a substitute five times.
He may be recalled into the squad to face Anorthosis Famagusta in the UEFA Cup first round tie at White Hart Lane tomorrow night.
