Diana and Dodi 'were so smitten they felt invincible'

Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed were so smitten with each other they had a sense of "invincibility" in the days before their death, the inquest heard.

Bodyguards were "freaking out" about their safety as the couple ignored security measures during a Mediterranean cruise.

Despite being hounded by paparazzi, they would leave the multi-million pound yacht without their two security men to wander around ports together.

Spiritual healer Myriah Daniels, who was on board the Jonikal, said the lovers seemed so caught up with one another that they did not worry about any danger.

She told the London hearing: "They were like two people who were in that whole new thing where it was like, 'This is exciting and fun and, gee, let's see what is going to happen'.

"You have that sense of invincibility. You are smitten with somebody."

Miss Daniels said that, despite Diana and Dodi's infatuation, she did not believe they were planning to marry when they died.

"They had just met.

"They were having fun getting to know each other and to this day I cannot believe that Dodi would have been premature in a situation like this to ask her to marry him."

Miss Daniels said bodyguards Kes Wingfield and Trevor Rees Jones were "overburdened" by the workload of looking after the high-profile couple.

She also claimed that chauffeur Henri Paul was driving like a 'maniac' hours before the crash that killed Diana and Dodi.

The healer was driven to the Paris Ritz by Paul in a Range Rover which was following behind a Mercedes carrying Diana and Dodi after they had flown back from a Mediterranean cruise on August 30.

She said she was convinced she was going to die.

"He was s**t for a driver and that is a fact."

Bodyguard Mr Wingfield, who was in the Range Rover with Miss Daniels, denied that it was being driven dangerously.

In a statement read to the London hearing he said: "I cannot tell at what speed we were travelling, but it seemed appropriate and reasonable."
