Does this taste bitter? David 'Man of the people' Cameron stops off at the pub

On the face of it, re-opening a pub wouldn't appear too onerous task for a self-styled "man of the people".

But somehow Tory leader David Cameron managed to make having a mid-afternoon pint look more uncomfortable than a grilling in the House of Commons.

Sitting on his own at the bar of The Plough in his Witney constituency in a black suit and red tie he stuck out like a Labour voter at a Tory conference.

Other drinkers looked utterly disinterested as he washed down two pints of bitter, which of course, being a "man of the people" meant he didn't have to pay for.

At one point he inspected the label on the bitter he was drinking, as if recognising his favourite brand.

But in a less staged shot he appeared to grimace as he gulped down a mouthful. Perhaps it wasn't fancy enough for his delicate tastebuds.

After sinking the two pints Cameron left, saying: "I'd better not drink too much, I've got my constituency surgery".

All very sensible, but given he was over the limit you'd have to hope somebody else was driving.

Last year Cameron was mocked for a series of staged photo opportunities as part of an attempt to "rebrand" the Conservatives.

He was photographed reading a novel on a Tube train in a pristine carriage almost devoid of other passengers, sweeping a street and painting over some graffiti in workmen's overalls.

Being such a down-to-earth guy, it was perhaps inevitable a pub trip would be next.
