It was reported that Carl, 40, collapsed and died from a suspected heart attack at his home, and last night Hoddle was said to have been "reeling" from the tragic news.

An ambulance spokesman said: "We attended an address following reports of a man suffering cardiac arrest. The man was pronounced dead at the scene."
Carl, who lived in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, with his second wife Dawn and step-daughter Robyn, had a difficult life and had attempted to following the footsteps of his older brother.
He played for Barnet and Leyton Orient after being rejected by Tottenham at the age of 18.
Hoddle played for Chelsea, Spurs and England before eventually managing the national team in 1996 for three years.
Carl was not so lucky, and after being rejected by Tottenham his first wife Lisa, mother of his two daughters, left him when he had an affair.
In 1995, Carl was sacked as landlord of pub in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, after he was convicted of drink-driving.
A year later, he reportedly overdosed on paracetamol, 48 hours after Hoddle was appointed England team coach.
But he recovered and went on to work as a car salesman before returning to football in 2004, when he was hired by his brother as a scout and coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Last night, a spokesman for Hoddle, who is planning to launch his own soccer academy this year, said he was not available for comment.
