The 22-year-old goalkeeper will play in the Carling Cup semi-final against Tottenham tonight despite Jens Lehmann's weekend display against Burnley being described as "faultless" by his manager.
The German's future at Arsenal is still in doubt as he mulls over a move to Borussia Dortmund, but Wenger has made it clear Lehmann would not be replaced if he decided to leave. The Arsenal manager said: "If Jens does go Fabianski would become the No2."
Poland international Fabianski will, tonight, have the job of keeping out Dimitar Berbatov, a striker Wenger once considered signing. The Frenchman said: "When he played for Bayer Leverkusen I noticed him. He was a young boy at the time but we were never in need of him. We had Thierry Henry, we had Robin van Persie. Then we got Emmanuel Adebayor.
"Berbatov had technical top quality, he is tall and, in England, it helps. He is a top class striker."
Meanwhile, Newcastle have joined a host of clubs interested in Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra but Wenger is reluctant to let him go. The manager has also rejected an Aston Villa inquiry for Justin Hoyte.
