Father crushes son, 6, to death by accidentally running him over with JCB

Accident: A JCB digger

A six-year-old boy died when his father accidentally drove over him in a JCB.

The child, named by neighbours as Bobby, was playing on his family's farm when the tragedy unfolded.

Follwing the incident paramedics were called and rushed the boy to hospital, where he later died.

His father, was named locally as labourer Bob Eastwood.

Local councillor Phil Filmer, who lives near to the scene, in the village of High Halstow, near Rochester, Kent, said: "It's left the whole community devastated."

He said the community had been left "badly shaken" by the death.

The Medway councillor said: "It's very sad - you can't really put into words what they must be going through.

"They are a very tight-knit family - the parents of the little boy live in the same small holding as the grandparents.

"I spoke to the grandad about it yesterday and he was obviously very upset.

"It's just tragic.

"I didn't like to ask the exact nature of what happened - I just know it involved a digger."

The family live in three caravan park-style white mobile homes and keep a couple of horses on their land.

A police spokesman confirmed they were called to the farm in High Halstow, near Rochester in Kent.

He added that the boy's death was not being treated as suspicious.

The spokesman continued: 'We attended the address at around 6.30pm.

'A six-year-old boy was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.'
