Five-tonne digger that's nimble on its tracks

A romantic duet between a dancer and a five-tonne digger will be unveiled on the South Bank this weekend.

Transports Exceptionnels will be performed by Philippe Priasso and his "female" mechanical partner four times in Jubilee Gardens on Saturday and Sunday.

Betsy Gregory, artistic director of organisers Dance Umbrella, said: "It is a very inventive, beautiful and delightful piece of dance.

"Just the concept of a man engaged in what is a love duet with a digger makes you chuckle. They go through love, quarrels, rejection - an extraordinary range of emotions. I think it will delight and engage everyone who sees it."

The dance is performed to arias by Massenet sung by Maria Callas.
