'Fly-tipper' caught on CCTV could face prosecution and jail

This man is wanted by Enfield council for alleged fly-tipping.

He was caught on CCTV dumping rubbish repeatedly.

Terry Neville, Enfield cabinet member for environment, said: "We will not tolerate anyone selfish enough to think they can dump rubbish in our borough.

"My message to these people is ... our enviro crime unit will catch you and you will be prosecuted."

Last year, London councils dealt with 588,432 incidents of fly-tipping at a cost of almost £20 million. But the number of prosecutions fell from 308 to 293, sparking calls for tougher action by town halls and courts.

Fly-tipping is an arrestable offence, which carries a maximum penalty of £50,000 in a magistrates' court, or a five-year prison sentence at a crown court.

Anybody with information should call the council on 020 8379 1000.
