Alex Cameron is offering stakes from a pound in thriller Michael's Resignation, which tells the story of a City worker who turns violent after his employer goes bust. The producer and his director, Joby Stephens, are hoping to raise the £50,000 budget from hundreds of micro-investors, who have been promised a return on their stake if the feature film makes a profit.

They turned to the idea after growing frustrated with the bureaucracy involved in applying for public funding and failing to find major private investors. Mr Cameron, 30, said: "We have young talented people from writers, cast and crew, who are willing to work for free. There is an enormous amount of goodwill and excitement about the project."

A website and a Facebook group have so far sold more than £6,000 of shares. The producer is hoping to have the budget in time for a three-week shoot this summer.
