Crime scene: Rachel Jones was stabbed to death as she was cycled home on Friday night
Witnesses reported hearing an argument between Miss Jones and the two women in the car, and Miss Jones then tried to ride off.
The car followed her down a cul de sac and she was attacked.
Several youngsters aged between 12 and 16, went to help her after the stabbing.
A girl aged around 14 called an ambulance and was hysterical as she covered Miss Jones's bloodstained body with her coat.
The murder took place in the centre of a large council estate in Anfield, an area thought by residents to be popular with drug dealers.
One resident, 78-yearold Cecil Wood, said: "I just can't believe this has happened on my very doorstep. This place is getting worse."
