Four-year-old girl ‘thrown to her death by father’

This is the first picture of Darcey Freeman, the four-year-old allegedly thrown off a bridge in Melbourne by her father.

Her father, Arthur Freeman, 35, an IT worker, has been charged with murder. It is alleged he took Darcey from the family car on the West Gate Bridge on 29 January and threw her into the Yarra River, 180ft below. She died in hospital four hours later.

The Freemans had just agreed over access to Darcey and their two other children, Benjamin, six, and Jackson, two, after separating in 2007.

Darcey's uncles, Tim and Joe Barnes, said the emotional outpouring was overwhelming. "We will never understand the reasons why," a statement said.
