Jubilation: The Queen

While she celebrated the 54th anniversary of her coronation with a day at the races, bookmakers had to pay out an estimated £50million as Dettori rode 5-4 favourite Authorized to victory by five lengths.

Simon Clare of bookmakers Coral said: "This is a fantastic day for the sport but a shocker for the bookies. It will be our biggest payout in Derby history."

Dettori, 36, said afterwards: "This is a dream come true for me - a day I will never forget."

The Queen, dressed in a bright blue coat and matching hat with pink trim, looked on with the Duke of Edinburgh as Dettori passed the post.
