Game, set and snatch as thief hits Wimbledon locker rooms

Security has been stepped up at Wimbledon as it emerged that a thief has been preying on players.

Several stars at the tournament have demanded action after having their cash and valuables stolen from changing areas in the run-up to the tournament.

The security team at the championships have made it a priority to catch the thief, and are even reportedly looking at the possibility that it could be a player or coach.

Jonas Bjorkman is leading the push for more security after having his wallet stolen twice

During Wimbledon qualifying in Roehampton Dane Kenneth Carlsen reported his Rolex watch stolen and French star Nicolas Mahut had his iPod taken.

Jamie Murray - brother of British No1 Andy - had money and his mobile stolen at the Artois Championships at Queen's Club two weeks ago while Czech player Radek Stepanek had e5,000 taken from his wallet at the French Open.

Jonas Bjorkman, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year, is leading the protests after having his wallet stolen twice on the tour this year, and the Swede revealed that players had raised concerns at a meeting before Wimbledon.

He said: "The ATP are deciding whether it is necessary to put cameras in dressing rooms.

"This year the problem has been extremely bad.

"In some tournaments there are up to 128 players and if the guard sees someone going around picking up things in racket bags, it is hard for them to understand whose the racket bag is.

"I have had my wallet stolen twice this year. Now I only have 20 euros in my pocket. But the most important thing was the job to get back credit cards and driving licence."

An ATP spokesman said: "We are aware of these incidents. We take security on the tour very seriously."
